Ipek grew up in Istanbul, Turkey and is a glass artist, curator and an architect. She moved to Brooklyn in 2018 after receiving her MFA degree in Glass from Rhode Island School of Design. Before moving to the USA she worked as a research and teaching assistant in architecture departments and glass workshops. She has also volunteered as an instructor at a children’s art workshop. She completed her MA on History of Architecture in 2014 and focused on the history of architectural glass, particularly 19th century greenhouses of the Ottoman Empire. She still enjoys visiting botanical gardens, stopping by the warm greenhouses and looking at plants. She currently makes stained glass work and mosaics in her studio in Brooklyn and also practices glassblowing at UrbanGlass.
