Community Programs

We are always looking for ways to serve and support our artist community members, our neighbors, and the wider glass world. Get introduced to our studio through Open Studios, meet us at a local fair to learn more about our programs, join a class through your local senior center, and so much more.

UrbanGlass is committed to fostering community partnerships with organizations that share our passion for educating and inspiring young people. Please check out our Blog to read about past events, or contact our Youth & Outreach Manager at karina@urbanglass.org to learn more.

Open Studios

UrbanGlass’ studio spaces are equipped for rentals supporting artists, designers, and makers, but are usually closed to the general public. Open Studios are a chance for people of all ages to become immersed in our 17,000 square foot studio, learn about the magic of glass through demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities. Look out for upcoming Open Studio events, along with other public programs, here.

SU-CASA Programs

SU-CASA is a community arts engagement program that places artists and arts organizations in residence at senior centers across the five boroughs of New York City. Connecting seniors and artists enriches the well-being of both, creating a bond through mutual learning, engagement, and respect. In spring 2022 we partnered with St. Charles Jubilee Senior Center and Van Dyke II Senior Center to host 12-week programs exploring mosaics and stained glass. The SU-CASA program is funded by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA).

Fairs & Pop-Ups

Fairs, festivals, and pop-up markets are a great way to connect with our local community and share the magic of glass far and wide. UrbanGlass is delighted to partner with cultural and arts organizations across NYC to spark inspiration and reveal how glass shapes the modern world through live demonstrations — both virtual and in-person — and creative art activities. Don’t miss us at youth and family-friendly events in your area.

Partner Organizations/Events include:
Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance: ART360º
Downtown Brooklyn Arts Alliance (DBAA): Downtown Brooklyn Arts Festival
Metropolitan Museum of Art: Teens Take The Met!
Fort Greene Park Conservancy (FGPC): Earth Day
Open House New York

Fort Greene Park Conservancy Earth Day

Fort Greene Park is a beloved landmark of our neighborhood. In collaboration with our generous partners at the Fort Greene Park Conservancy (FGPC), we have distributed free art activity kits focused on upcycling and sustainability to our community neighbors, inspiring a deeper consideration for the beauty of the park, and highlighting ways to cherish it.

Crit Night

Critique is a vital part of the artistic process. Crit Night at UrbanGlass is an opportunity for artists who create in the studio to share work in progress or finished pieces in a critique setting hosted on Zoom. Presenting artists discuss their work in a slide presentation, video, or live streamed from their space, then seek audience questions, reactions, and discussion. Each crit night will feature two artists working in similar themes. Crit Night is hosted by artist and instructor Erica Rosenfeld. Present at Crit Night, submit the form here.

Open House New York

We are a proud participant in the annual OHNY Weekend! Open House New York is a non-profit that celebrates the best examples of design and planning throughout the five boroughs, helping to foster a more informed conversation about how architecture and urban design sustain New York as a vibrant place to live, work, and learn. UrbanGlass is a destination on the OHNY weekend, welcoming visitors for tours of the studio and a conversation about how glass functions in the design, architecture, and aesthetic of the city. This event takes place in October each year. Learn more here.
